Clinical Supervision Series

On January 1st, 2007 the new requirements for being an “approved supervisor” for those seeking masters-level licensure in WA State, went into effect.  This new code requires you to have completed a minimum of 15 hours of training in clinical supervision obtained through either a supervision course, or continuing education credit on supervision.

Cascadia Training currently offers a 3-part training course on clinical supervision.  This 3-part, 18 ceu, series exceeds the 15 hour requirement.  Each 6-hour workshop is designed to stand alone. They do not need to be taken in sequence.  You will receive a certificate of completion (suitable for framing) at the end of each workshop.  Once you have completed our 3-part series, Cascadia Training will send you a letter stating that you have exceeded the training obligation.

Mental health counselors who complete this 3-part course, and who are members of the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association may also request that we send verification of the 18 training hours to WMHCA which keeps a list on their website [www.wmhca.org] of members who have provided documentation of their supervision ceu’s, and who are available to serve as an approved supervisor for licensure candidates.  NASW members can also be added the NASW Clinical Supervisor List.

*Requirements of an “Approved Supervisor” for Mental Health Licensure

• Must hold a license without restrictions that has been in good standing for at least two years.

• Must not be a blood or legal relative or cohabitant of the supervisee.

• Must not be the supervisee’s peer (i.e., function as a peer in the same agency).

• Must not have acted as the supervisee’s therapist within the past two years.

• Must have completed a minimum of fifteen clock hours of training in clinical supervision obtained through a supervision course or continuing education credits on supervision, or supervision of supervision.

• Must have twenty-five hours of experience in supervision of clinical practice.

• Must attest to having thorough knowledge of a supervisee’s practice activities including: recordkeeping, financial management, ethics of clinical practice, and the backup plan for coverage.
