About the workshop

This one day workshop is designed for professionals who are working with transracial adoptive families.  The decision to adopt across cultural and racial lines is a lifelong commitment to exploring matters of race and confronting racism in all its forms by constantly developing new skills and awareness.  This workshop will provide you with tools and resources to help create a sense of confidence as you support families explore their future as a transracial family.

Race Matters


Development of racial identity

Cultural competence

Talking to children about race

Strategies for working with families

Practical tools and resources for creating positive outcomes

About the presenter

Astrid Dabbeni, has led youth adoption support groups, and worked or volunteered for adoption related organizations for over 14 years.  Astrid's life-long interest in adoption is rooted in her own adoption at the age of four with her older sister from Colombia, South America

CEU info: 6 CEU's  Cascadia Training is approved by the NASW, Washington State Chapter, to provide continuing education units to Licensed Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists.  Certificates of Completion are awarded to attendees at the end of each workshop.  Provider number #1975-118, and is an OSPI approved provider of in-service education.  This is a "Washington State Approved Clock Hour Offering Workshop."
