Child Centered Play Therapy

This course is for those wanting the theory and therapeutic processes of conducting evidenced based Child Centered Play Therapy to children.

Children are the foundation to the world's future.  In every culture, children engage in different forms of play.  Through this seminar, you will learn the theories, strategies and applications of play therapy in clinical sessions.  Gain understanding of play therapy and neurobiology and its therapeutic impact on children.  Mental health counselors, school counselors, childcare providers and graduate students can all benefit from this training.

This dynamic and interactive workshop is based upon up to date empirical and evidenced based data.  Participants will experience practical and recent examples of topics that are explored.  Samples of appropriate toys, handouts, books, etc., will be available for participants to view.

Course Objectives 

  • Learn the what's, why's and principles of play therapy
  • Explore the development theories within play therapy, including relevant and acceptable current play therapy models
  • Understand the neurobiological impact of play on children
  • Review the techniques and intricacies of play therapy
  • Apply play therapy techniques to children of all cultures
  • Understand the intricate nature of communication between the child and the therapist.

Cary McAdams Hamilton, MA, MFT, LMHC, CMHS, RPT-S

Cary McAdams Hamilton is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with diverse experience working in private practice, non-profit mental health service providers, juvenile justice, public education, residential treatment center and county assistance programs.  She is focused on working with children, adolescents and their families.

Cary is the President of Olympia Therapy, she is an Adjunct Professor at Brandman University in Lacey, WA and past Adjunct Professor at George Fox University in Salem, OR.
