As of January 1, 2014, mental health counselors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, licensed social workers, *certified counselors and *certified advisors, *chemical dependency professionals, and occupational therapists MUST participate in a 6-hour CE approved/accredited training seminar on Suicide Assessment, Treatment & Management within the next 2-3 years and then again every 6 years. Suicide is one of the most common clinical emergencies and occupational hazards for the practicing clinician. This life-threatening situation heightens anxiety for counselors dealing with clients in suicidal crisis.
- Examine demographics, risk factors, special populations, myths and misconceptions of suicide
- Introduce Suicidality and the DSM 5
- Discuss the specifics of Suicide Assessment
- Look at Suicide treatment plans
- Review Suicide management.
*the rule was changes for Chemical Dependency Professionals, Certified Counselors and Certified Advisors. Their requirement is now 3 hours.

Samara C. Kezelle Fritchman has been a national presenter/instructor for 10 years speaking on Ethical Standards and Ethical Competencies, Multiculturalism, and Complex Clients. As a Certified Employee Assistance Professional, EAP Counselor and EA Specialist-Clinical, Samara has knowledge and clinical practice in suicide intervention and management.
Samara has 35+ years of experience in employee assistance program work, working with all levels of staff spanning a variety of job classifications, ethical backgrounds and educational level-providing consultation, counseling and professional development training services as an external employee assistance professional. She has, through her professional development training programs, covered topics in psychology, human relations, job skills and general business. Her seminars are always current and up-to-date with the latest and most relevant needs in the field.
Samara has a bachelor degree in Business/Behavioral Science and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. She is a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP). She is also a certified Employee Assistance Professional-Clinical (EAS-C). Additionally, she has completed the following professional development, business, and/or academic programs 1) Certified Facilitator and Trainer for Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM); 2) Mediation Training; 3) US Legal Studies, (JD); and, 4) Educational Psychology, (PhD).
